Our Board of Directors

The Patient Education Institute (PEI) is a privately-held company. Our Board of Directors includes:

Moe A. Ajam, Ph.D.

Dr. Moe Ajam is co-founder, President and Chairman of the Board of PEI. Dr. Ajam has provided the vision culminating in the creation and development of the X-Plain product line. He has more than 25 years of experience designing educational software for startup companies. Dr. Ajam has pioneered in 1991 the implementation of subscription-based computer software services for managing risk through the documentation of training and education.

From 1985 to 1989, Dr. Ajam was Senior Instructional Designer at the Center for Educational Experimentation, Development and Evaluation (CEEDE) at Oakdale, Iowa. CEEDE developed software for K-12. CEEDE generated revenues through sales of its software products and from educational grants. In his first three years at CEEDE, Dr. Ajam managed projects involving the translation of educational software to nine different languages. In his final two years in the position, Dr. Ajam managed all software development projects at CEEDE. In August of 1989, Profiles Corporation acquired CEEDE.

Profiles Corporation publishes educational materials and offers training workshops. Dr. Ajam was hired as Project Manager at Profiles, training employees on maintaining the software acquired from CEEDE and coordinating with sales staff on marketing the software to schools nationwide. Profiles (later Buckle Down Publishing) was acquired by Haights Cross Communications.

In April of 1991, Dr. Ajam managed another startup software company, the Police Law Institute. The Police Law Institute develops and markets computer-based instructional software to train thousands of public safety officers every month on the legal aspects of law enforcement. Dr. Ajam coordinated software development, instructional design and product marketing and sales. He introduced several improvements to the software, emphasizing electronic documentation of training, risk management and issuing continuing education credits. Dr. Ajam left the Police Law Institute in April, 1995, to co-found the Patient Education Institute. In 2002, Dr. Ajam contracted through PEI to move all operations of the Police Law Institute online. The Police Law Institute was acquired by Oliver and Associates, in 2004.

Dr. Ajam received his BS degree in Biology in 1982 and a Programming Degree in Computer Science in 1984 from the American University of Beirut. He received his Ph.D. in Computer-Based Instruction from the University of Iowa in 1990.

While a practicing neurosurgeon at the Neurosurgical Clinic of Bloomington, Indiana, since 1992, Dr. Haddad continues to devote more than 25 hours per week directing all medical editorial activities, coordinating the Medical Advisory Board, and does quality control on all published medical materials.

Dr. Haddad received his BS and MD degrees from the American University of Beirut in 1983 and 1986, respectively. He received his neurosurgical training at the University of Iowa from 1986 to 1992.
